The boys and I went to Middleton Farm today and picked a large basket (half bushel) of brussel sprouts! Elijah had a hard time getting them to snap off the stalks, so it was mainly my hands that filled the basket.  Took about half hour, and after I blanch and freeze, these should last me well into the winter!

Brussel Sprouts love the cold weather and its even recommended that you dont pick them until the first freeze!  We love these little cabbage like veggies at our house, so I wanted to be sure I got a bunch!

We have been really focusing on stocking up on food that can be stored, canned or froze to get us through the winter.  A large bag of onions, 50# potatoes, many carrots, cabbage, turnips, and apples are out in the garage.  we managed to get 3 rounds of tomatoes canned, pickles, asparagus  and a variety of jams.  In the freezer we stocked corn, blueberries, fresh navy beans, spinach, and kale.  These brussel sprouts will fit right in.

A big shoutout to Middleton Farm CSA.  We are apart of their meat CSA program and Ben does the deliveries around Michigan.  More info about meat CSAs for another post! but u can check out the farm HERE.
